Gutsy wind on friday

Viggie wrote under Infrastructure,Madurai - General

Last friday was just a usual hot summer dog day. But suddenly there were clouds and had ‘Alankatti’ (ice rain) rain in the evening coupled with gutsy winds. It lasted for about 2 hours, uprooting trees and twigs on most part of the city. The Sholavandan road which is notable for shaded trees had many trees falling & disrupting power lines.

But the most unexpected thing is the crashing down of fifth Platform roof on railway junction. It’s a new shelter on right end. I visited the fifth platform just the day before to see off a relative. The new roof was on the extended platform which is exposed to strong side winds.  But still it’s a wonder that new one crashes while the older ones are intact.
