Apart from Elanthaikulam, a second & more prominent IT park is coming up at Vadapalanji near Madurai Kamraj University. It is also built by ELCOT on the area of 240 acres. HCL, Satyam, Sutherland, Syntel & others have received allotted land in this park. More details on the official site page of Madurai IT Park SEZ 2.
The IT park is along Madurai – Theni NH49 Extn. and have to cross Madurai – Bodi Metre Gauge railway track to reach the park. A proposal to build an overbridge across this railway track (to be converted to broad gauge soon) is under consideration.

Two SEZ IT parks are being actively developed ELCOT in Madurai. The first one is about 29 acres plot on the ring road near madurai airport at Elanthaikulam Village.
According to ELCOT official website on Madurai IT park 1, plots were already allotted for three companies, Honeywell, HCL & Tessolve services. Not much activity visible at the site. A view of this site a month back as shown in Skyscraper forum.

There is more talk about making Madurai as an IT hub. Hopefully, we”ll see some of them in reality in 2 years. The Madurai Corporation have identified a piece of land for Tidel Park. The location does not look ideal for peaceful programming. They’ve choosed & approved a piece of land (5 acres) sandwitched by Mattu Thavani integrated bus stand and the new Paddy wholesale market. Both have high potential for hustle & bustle.
Ironically, almost all other locations in outskirts of Madurai have almost idyllic surroundings and will make a great place for innovative brain storming. Perhaps, the Madurai Corporation have to find sufficient place within their Corporation boundary.
On the other side, the IT Park proposed by Madurai Kamaraj University will have a better location. It will be near the Madurai – Kochin highway & closer to the University. The place is certainly calmer. And the University has identified 125 acres of land.
The places near the ring road between Avaniapuram & Kappalur might also work well for IT Parks. It also have an added advantage of being closer to Airport. Right now, the isolated ring road is notorious for waylaying 2-wheeler riders at night. This can quickly change with increased traffic & activities along the road.
