Wanna eat Madurai mann (er… Madurai sand)?
The monsoon is on. It’s raining atleast twice a week. Widespread digging on the roads for underground drainage, phone lines etc makes the puddles and slush permanent. The city now looks like one big construction site.
If you ever wanted to taste the ”Madurai mann” (sentimentimentally smelling and tasting the sand… or soil) now is the best time. All you have to do is mount on a 2-wheeler and ride without any mask or helmet. As an added bonus, you can watch fellow 2-wheelers zipping across in all directions right in front of you, at maniacal speeds.

so we cannot as Indians…cannot afford to Change Madurai to be a Newyark or Londan
Enjoy Madurai as it is….

Hi Selvanathan,
It’s really amusing to see your guesses on me! Thanks for complementing me on my language & the choice of photos. Yes, I’m an Indian. More so, I am an ordinary Madurai-karan, with an agricultural background, born & brought up here. Came back after two decades of work based travelling to settle down in my home town. You can read about my experiences in the city three decades back in this post. http://namma.mejura.com/2005/12/planetarium-at-university/
I’m not seeing it as a negative side. I’m writing things just as I would comment to my good old friends. I write a blog on Madurai – of all things, because I love my city.
Anyway, after your accusations, I again went over my posts again. I don’t think that I’m focusing only on negative. There were many posts about scenic locations near Madurai and similar happenings.
Do take other posts in good humour. It is not meant to belittle our city. We don’t have to ape the west, but also we don’t have to always praise ourselves! In spite of all the short-comings I love my Madurai !! And proud of it.
Thanks for asking. I would also write my profile in ‘About’ page soon!
